Introvert & Influencing?

Introvert and Influencing??

With the tremendous advancement of technology over the past decade, the pandemic of 2020-2021 yielded to the power of digitization. We live in a digital world where social media is fundamental to any successful entrepreneur. Every individual can now make a career with social media accounts, a profession famously known as “Influencer”. Influencers are a significant engagement nowadays, with brands endowing individual social media accounts with a large number of followers.

Influencers are professionals who know how and when to post apt content for better engagement with their target audience. But the question here is how does one become an influencer? What are the factors that make one a successful influencer? So what comes to your mind when you think of a social media influencer? Today you must be following a lot of influencers on your Instagram account. You see them dancing to all the trending music, sharing their travel documents, reviewing a product they love passionately, and including a large number of unknown admirers into their daily personal lives.

All of these things require a lot of fancy-free confidence and a social spirit.. A little bit of an extroverted personality type. Does that mean introverts like me cannot be an influencer? I listen to a lot of young introverted people who are aspiring to be an entrepreneur or a freelancer, feeling overwhelmed by all these social media influencing traits. We always ask ourselves “Do we require an extroverted pre-condition to be a blooming social media influencer?”

Let me ease your worries, introverts. Here I am to tell you all that, it is just a myth.

According to Forbes, almost one-third to half of all people are introverted. Even though introverts are not the ones to go up to a stranger and strike up a conversation, there are things which introverts can do to command the social aspects in a way that brings them success. Brace yourselves to start with a guide and steps to building your own influencer journey by tailoring your skills that suit your personalities, which can make you more successful than your extroverted counterparts. Working on your strengths rather than your weaknesses can open doors for many opportunities in life, even the ability to leave a mark and influence.

  1. 1. Be your own Authentic Self.

This stands so true. Bashing yourself for not having a loud social profile and an extroverted personality can just stress and overwhelm you further. Just be authentic and be your usual self. You may be comfortable interacting with a small group and that’s perfectly fine. Introverts have a flair for creating lasting connections. The key here is networking. To flourish in any business or in relations, social connections play a vital role. Mastering networking skills goes a long way

  1. 2. Choose a medium for expressing your thoughts and communication.

Is coming in front of the camera or showing your face not your thing? Is public speaking not your forte? Maybe you are good at depicting them in visuals as a form of art or illustrations? Maybe you express yourself better when you are writing. Maybe you prefer to post photographs and video clips to send a message. You can focus on the ones that really matter.

  1. 3. Schedule time for interaction everyday with your audience.

Read comments and reply, post stories, ask interactive questions, maybe a quick live session, and understand what your audience is willing to see in your content. It’s not a compulsion to have a dialogue every single day by coming live, do not force yourself to do this if you are not comfortable. A quick interactive session on stories should be a goal for engagement.

  1. 4. Inform the community that you are thinking.

Introverts are best known for thinking before speaking, which may seem as a passive being and not action driven. Letting your community know that you are taking time to think and work on an upcoming project or new idea.
Influence is strategic thinking and setting goals in communication. An Introvert’s strategic mind means they are very specific in their conversations. An introvert’s guide to influencing is usually finding the right words, keeping it short, effective, and delivering the message.

  1. 5. Shifting Spotlight

We all agree on how much an introvert hates being in the spotlight, don’t we? Influencing brings the introvert to the center of attention, while introverts shift the spotlight on others. That’s where they hit the sack and they put the spotlight on their audience. The introvert’s community loves them for that.

Lastly, According to James Abruzzo, Director of the Institute for Ethical Leadership at Rutgers Business School, says, “You do not need to be extroverted to lead people, and you do not need to be extroverted for people to follow you.
Setting healthy boundaries, Scheduling a digital detox time for yourself in a day. Have your own moment of introversion that will help you recharge your batteries and boost energies and creativity for your work. Helps you in being consistent and keeps you in check with burnouts.

Believe in yourself, love your community and they will love you back. Work on your core strengths and leverage the hidden influencing potential you have. Keep the tips in mind and become an inspiration to the introvert community. See you on the influencers list soon 🙂
